Tour Description

Quilotoa Crater Lake is a dead volcano that became a beautiful lagoon, that will give us a day without equal. Located within the reserve the Illinizas will put us in contact with the Ecuadorian Andes, with their Ingineas Quichuas people, we will appreciate the way of life of these peoples

The meeting point is our office 10-15 minutes before the scheduled departure. From Baños to Quilotoa it takes us 2:30 hours more or less. First we take the Baños-Quito route in which we travel through the Andean alley enjoying part of the Volcanoes Street , where We appreciate some of the volcanoes that surround us or that are nearby.
When we arrived in Latacunga, we take the route Latacunga-La Mana for about 1 hour, until Zumbahua from where we take the road to Quilotoa, From ZUmbahua to the lake it takes 20min.

We arrived at the Parking Place at 3800mt which is 20 meters away from the entrance to the lake. From where we can walk to the lake, this walk takes us 25min, to return takes 1:30hr on average or you can also rent mules to go up. After this walk and enjoy the lake, we can walk a bit on the right side until the Mirador Shalala . After this walk we return to the parking place and begin our return to Banos.
Remember that from Latacunga to Quilotoa you can see several indigenous communities, where we can see and learn about their millenary culture and tradition. Also we could see some of the biggest volcanos Ecuador, an amazing Andean Landscape.

Located within the reserve the Illinizas will put us in contact with the Ecuadorian Andes, with their Ingineas Quichuas people, we will appreciate the way of life of these peoples Located in the VOLCANOS STREET and within the "Illinizas" Ecological Reserve, there is Quilotoa Lake, which is an extinct volcano, which had an implosion in which Its large crater was left open giving a chance to form a Lake, one of the most beautiful in South America.
The entire area of ​​Quilotoa is special to learn and get in touch with the Indigenous part of our country. We can appreciate about its architecture, agriculture, livestock, most of these communities still preserve traditions since thousands of years ago. Despite living in the 21st century, almost nothing has changed.
The Quilotoa Lake can be visited for 1-4days depending on how long time you have. If you decide to do the hole loop we can help you to arrange it. The Quilotoa Loop is possible to do it with a private tour or on your own, it is easy to do it although a good description es necessary. On this Hike we visit some local communities such as: Zumbahua, Quilotoa, Chugchilan, Isinlivi, Sigchos. In Zumbahua and Quilotoa 95% of its people are indigenous people, Kichwa speakers, still keeping some of their ancients tradition, it is beatufill to see how they live in harmony with the nature, protecting it, loving it, sharing it, on the routes is possible to see children ridig LLamas or sometimes Alpakas.

The average altitude on this area is 3,900 in one point in Quilotoa. Per day we hike 6-8hrs doing it easy, enjoying the stunning landscape and more. In each place there are places for staying, stores for buying water, snacks, basic things. If you take pills or some medicines please don´t forget them. So if you like hike hiking and trekking you will love this Adventure.
